Tick Tips from Northeast Pediatrics

Posted by CRCC in Coddington Road Community Center Blog

Our Friends at Northeast Pediatrics in Ithaca have a wonderful article on their website titled “Ticks and Your Child.” Coddington Road Community Center Director, Heather Mount, recommends that parents read this article. “Our teachers check the children throughout the day but we highly recommend you consider repellent and definitely doing a check every night,” said Director Mount.

The Northeast Pediatrics article shares important tick bite prevention and care information, such as:

  • Where to expect ticks.
  • How to prevent tick bites.
  • How to check your child’s body for ticks.
  • How to check yourself and your pets for ticks.

Busy in the Bear Room in May

Posted by CRCC in Coddington Road Community Center Blog

This month has been a super busy month in the Bear Room! The older children who are heading off to Kindergarten are preparing for their new schools! We have been working on writing and counting, as well as practicing our sight words! The Bears have been busy working hard.

We started out the month learning all about the farm! We talked about what the farm gives us and how it helps our body! Cheyenne brought in her saddle and taught us all how to ride horses. We also practiced milking cows, painted with hay, and talked about the fruits and vegetables we love! We had so much fun during farm week!

Once farm week was over we moved on to one of our favorite topics, BUGS!   We learned all about the three main parts of an insect’s body, what has six legs and what has eight and we discussed how important the bees are to our environment! When bug week was over the children had the opportunity to teach the teachers all that they learned! Of course, we then had to go on a nature walk and look for all kinds of wonderful bugs! We even looked over the leaves on the trees to see if some of our favorite bugs had been munching on them!

We finish May with super hero week. We are discussing what it means to be a hero, and who a hero is in our lives. Some of our favorite responses were ‘my mommy is my hero, she kisses my boo-boos and ‘heroes are people who help and protect!” During super hero week we were all given chances to be the ‘leader of the pack’ (switching line leaders every time we leave the room’. We even read our favorite super hero book “Issac and his Amazing Asperger Superpowers.” This book sparked a large conversation about what it means to be different, and how our differences don’t make us any less special!

Until next time!

Support CRCC on Giving is Gorges Day!

Posted by CRCC in Coddington Road Community Center Blog

Coddington Road Community Center is participating in Giving Is Gorges this year from May 9th at 6pm to May 10th at 6pm. We need your support to help expand the center! To celebrate Giving is Gorges, Coddington will be offering a number of promotions and giveaways for all our donors. Be sure to follow our event page for more information.

Beginning this fall, Coddington Road Community Center will offer care for all children, infants (6 weeks) and older. Since its creation, CRCC has grown to meet the needs and interests of the community. Infant care is a high need in the Ithaca area and we are pleased to be able to now offer care for children of all ages.

The Continuity of Care option is a gold standard in infant and toddler care which is designed to establish solid relationships between the teachers and the child as well as their family and the families in their care group. Utilizing mixed age grouping, consistent with our current program offerings, our new classroom will enroll a group of up to 8 children 6 weeks-3 years.

As we move forward, we need your support. The Coddington Road Community Center has been a fixture of Ithaca’s South Hill Community since 1949. The center’s first childcare programs opened in 1984. Since then, CRCC has established itself as one of Ithaca’s top providers. Your generous donation will assist CRCC as we continue the tradition of offering children both caring and structured classrooms, along with a connection to the natural environment around them. Thank you for your support.
