It is Family Friday! Today is all about learning and playing together as a family. Miss Rachel made a video to show one of her favorite projects: making salt dough handprints. This is a wonderful family activity that ends with beautiful keepsakes. All you need for ingredients is 1 cup of salt, 2 cups of flour and 1 cup of water. After watching the video and making your own salt dough handprints, please share a picture. Miss Rachel and all of us at Coddington would love to see your artistic creations!
This concludes our Week of the Young Child celebration for 2020. Thank you for joining us virtually this year. Work Together Wednesday is one of our favorite Week of the Young Child days. At the Coddington Road Community Center, we love teamwork. Our children, teachers and classrooms often work together. Whether it is group play on the playground, a science experiment in the classroom, building a bug hotel in the woods or working together to take care of Coddington, the result of that teamwork and collaboration is wonderful to witness.
Although we can’t celebrate in person, we hope that our families will enjoy Work Together Wednesday at home. Whether you enjoy a backyard scavenger hunt, make dinner, build a fort with couch cushions, build a Lego tower or organize a toy room together, we would like to see your pictures or hear all about it; please share!

To celebrate Artsy Thursday and Week of the Young Child, Mr. Rob has created a how-to drawing video. The Tiger Room enjoys reading the Pigeon books, written by Mo Willems, so join Rob as you learn how to draw the pigeon. Grab a pencil, crayon or marker and a piece of paper to draw along. Please share your completed project; we would love to see it!
Enjoying art at home with your child is a great way to not only explore creativity, but you can connect the experience with math and science skills if you explore mixing colors or making shapes. If you do an art project a day, you can create an Art Museum at Home! As we continue our Week of the Young Child celebration; today is Tasty Tuesday! As yummy as Tasty Tuesday sounds, the day is amount more than filling our stomachs with our favorite foods. It is a great day to prepare meals and snacks together as a family. When it comes to cooking, there are many opportunities to connect the experience with math, science and literacy skills.
At Coddington Road Community Center, just a few of the many cooking and food-based projects we have enjoyed in the past include making applesauce, homemade ice cream, preparing our own salads, tacos, trying new foods and having a homemade pizza party after reading the book “Secret Pizza Party,” by Adam Rubin.

It’s Music Monday! There are many ways for your family to celebrate Music Monday from home. In the past, our students have enjoyed: making their own musical instruments with recyclable materials, showing off their dance moves, singing their favorite song, having a musical parade around a room and reading books about music.

Week of the Young Child is a Coddington favorite. Each year, we join the The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) to celebrate our young children, their families, our teachers and early childhood education. Traditionally, this week is celebrated in our classrooms. Although we can’t be with our students right now, we will proceed with the celebration. We encourage your family to join us on this new, virtual adventure.

Combine science and art for a fun family activity with DIY puffy paint! We’ve done this activity with our afterschool students and they really enjoyed making their own paint mixtures. This activity allows your child to practice hand eye coordination, fine motor skills, and color recognition while expressing their creativity.
